Brain cell animation

An older project that I re-rendered - of course it is not scientifically correct, but fun nevertheless. The modelling was done in Blender (inspired by a very old Videofort tutorial for Cinama 4D) and the shading is procedural while the animation of the energy bursts of the cells is done by mixing materials across their UVs with colour ramps that are animated as a cycle. Combined with some audio vfx I put together a mini clip to illustrate potential animation examples for science documentaries.
